“And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night” (Exodus 13:21).
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).
“The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple” (Psalm 119:130).
The nation of Israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years led by the strange sight, a pillar of cloud and fire. We must set our sights on a goal to move forward with purpose. The path is dark, confusing, and ambiguous, unless we take the message of God with us, to light like a lamp, the way before us.
The Psalmist tells us that God’s word will give a simple understanding. Did he call us stupid? In this complex world, we need to get smart. The simple won’t find their way on the journey without some major, inspirational help. Clouds and fire all have a message too. The water cycle and the fire pit are filled with blessings and curses. Weather can be extreme and match burn fingers easily. It takes wisdom to follow the truth set before us.
Take time to consider what blessings and dangers are before you this week. Journal and reflect on the opportunities and challenges set before you. Take some time to look forward with wisdom. Pray about some of the decisions before you.
