“You shall command the people of Israel that they bring to you pure beaten olive oil for the light, that a lamp may regularly be set up to burn” (Exodus 27:20).
“Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!” (Psalm 43:3).
“Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it: I am the LORD; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations” (Isaiah 42:5-6).
God wants a relationship. So he gives us signs on the journey that he is here and he is speaking. Oil and light are symbols of the Spirit. Setting the lamp in the Tabernacle and Temple of worship were reminders that God is our light.
In the Hebrew worship book, the Psalms, the worship leader of Israel call end on God to send His light. Israel, as the people in a relationship with God, shows the nations that God provides and blesses as proof of his love. This is a sign of their covenant relationship. The One who created all things calls you to righteousness, to be a light to the world, to act out the covenant relationship that he is creating and calling in you.
Let the light you observe throughout this day remind you of the warmth of God’s love and the truth of his guidance. Give him glory for providing all you need today, especially the light of life. Journal about God’s faithfulness and love, especially in all he does to fulfill our needs.
