Water cleanses and washes, giving us a fresh start. Our hygiene habits prepare us for the day. Like our daily care for our bodies, is a picture of how we should prepare for a new day. Repentance means turning around. The practice of repentance prepares us to live in the way of Jesus. Caring for spirits is a way to prepare us for the future. Where we live in the promises of God. Water refreshes the earth and repentance renews our heart, to experience the grace of God.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10 ESV).
Christian need to invite God to wash away the things that get in the way of knowing Him. Those issues, habits, struggles, addictions keep us from walking in wholeness. Turn back to God, like water, refreshing and transformative, renews us our spirit, repentance is spiritual renewal. Stagnant water promotes decay, repentance invites the fresh flow that leads to life with God.
“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” (Acts 3:19 ESV).
Don’t rely on a one time cleansing, get the continual flow that God provides. He listens when we call to Him. Listen as Isaiah’s call.
“Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil” (Isaiah 1:16 ESV).
Like water to our physical bodies, repentance is valuable for spiritual life. Repentance, like washing, is an act of humility that opens the door to renewal and growth, drawing us to God’s grace.
Try this — As you pray, consider on the role of repentance. This spiritual fresh water flows continually, to renew your heart and soul. Take time to confess where and when you have gotten off track.
Journal this — Try writing down a prayer of repentance. Seek God’s renewal for your heart. Allow His cleansing grace to wash over you again.
Turning around,
