“Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb” (Revelation 22:1 ESV).
Like John, we appreciate when the truth is presented to us. The source of the water of life is the presence (the throne) of God and Jesus. This picture of our ultimate destiny, heaven, or eternity, is reassuring. It assumes that we want to receive from God, the gift he gives. Cooperating as John did, by faith, opens us up to the angel’s message.
The water, bright as crystal, reminds us of the light of God. The pure light-infused water is a picture of the clarity of truth, received in John’s vision. This heavenly vision sends us the message that eternity will be where all our concerns and desires are addressed and fulfilled. This is the Revelation of present and future existence with Christ.
“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ’Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water’” (John 7:38 ESV).
“The LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places” (Isaiah 58:11 ESV).
Take time to think about your spiritually “scorched places.” Do you feel dry or disconnected from God? Journal about areas where God is guiding you into greater wholeness. Write a prayer asking the River of Life to renew you.
In the flow,
