We want work that makes a difference, especially helping those in need. Our skills will be a benefit to those around us. Especially when they cannot return the favor.
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45 ESV).
Service is the core of our mission, exemplified by Jesus Himself. In Mark 10:45, we see Jesus as a model of service. His sacrificial love is expressed in the statement, Not to be served but to serve. He laid down His life. But long before, he served through his wisdom and teaching. Every task becomes an opportunity to follow the example of Christ’s humility and care.
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17 ESV).
In Colossians 3:17, Paul reminds us to do everything with gratitude. The work of our hands, words, and actions become gifts offered to God. All we do impacts the lives of those around us, transforming communities, and reflecting the love of God to the world.
Journaling: Reflect on a time when you served someone or witnessed service in action. Write about how it impacted you and your community. How can you better follow the example of Jesus?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us what true service looks like. May my words and actions reflect Your love. Let my work bring glory to You. Amen.
