We all want to be successful. Especially by providing for our family, but there’s so much more to it. Our work is a form of worship; it’s a spiritual practice. Solomon said it this way, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” (Proverbs 16:3 ESV) Established–when this word is used to describe plants, it means they are firmly rooted and growing well. We want our work to provide safety and security for our family. We want food on the table but also confidence in tomorrow. Now, no one is promised tomorrow, but we usually have more than one day in our future, until the end.
Look at what the Apostle Paul says about our work, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” (Colossians 3:23 ESV) Again, it’s worship. Not only do we provide for our family, but our work is the embodiment of praise to the Lord and our commitment to God.
